Babs - Co Owner & Artistic Director

My love for the beauty industry started at a very young age. I knew I wanted to be a hair stylist when I was 8, and I would go to the salon with my Mom. As a little girl, I only dreamt of the career I have now. I have been a licensed Cosmetologist since 1990. I am Aveda and Schwarzkopf trained, as well as a certified Megatips Extensionist. With 18 years in the industry, I’ve had an amazing opportunity to experience so many trends. I have watched them come and go, and then come back again.

I cannot remember a time when I didn’t have an interest in hair design. From the time that I could hold a comb and a brush, Barbie, My Little Pony, and any willing body relaxing by the pool on a hot summer day became my clients. The desire to become a hair dresser never left my mind. So with an eye for art and a creative spirit, beauty school became the perfect place for me right out of high school. Always striving to reach new heights in my field, I am proud to have achieved the recognition of “Best of Jax 2008 Hairstylist” award from Folio Weekly in just a few short years.

Katie - Master Stylist

Katie

I went to cosmetology school because beauty and fashion had always been an interest of mine.  I think having and maintaining healthy, beautiful hair is vital to a person's confidence. I take pride in the fact that I can help give someone that confidence. I always strive to excel in this industry and enjoy learning new and different techniques. I enjoy listening to my clients and giving them something that they can feel is personalized just for them, because I believe your hair should be a reflection of you and your personality.

The rewards from being a hair stylist are endless for me. Seeing clients look and feel their best, learning new techniques, staying current, and being able to use my creativity on a daily basis are just the beginning of what I love about this industry. I find my inspiration on runways, high-fashion magazines, and watching platform artists illustrate the latest trends at hair shows. What I love about working at Sutra is knowing that I am surrounded by a team that shares the same passion as I, and is there to support and inspire one another.

Carrie - Senior Stylist

Carrie I went to Cosmetology School with hopes of becoming a Stylist that could listen to people and translate their dreams of style, form and function. I work everyday to realize those dreams by furthering my knowledge and skill. I want my clientele to feel confident that not only can I make them look amazing, but I have their best interest and the integrity of their hair at the forefront. With a Theater background, and an eye for design, this field felt like the natural progression after College. As an Artist I enjoy the originality of each client and appreciate the unique bond I have with them, personally as well as creatively. A sparkling personality, a consistent strive for perfection, and an exceptional way of diagnosing the individual needs of my clients, are just a few of the qualities I believe describe me as a Stylist.

Erika - Senior Stylist

Erika I started working at Sutra my senior year of high school and I loved it. I knew that cosmetology was the right choice for me after seeing how much something as little as getting a root touch-up could change the way people felt about themselves. Everyday is a new learning experience for me as I strive to keep my clients looking and feeling their best. I have always considered myself pretty artistic and fashion conscious. I like feeling good about myself when I walk out the door and I want to make everyone else feel the same way. After being at Sutra for 3 years now I know I made the right decision.

Erin - Senior Stylist

Erin I've always had a passion for beauty, fashion, art, and creativity. After high school, it was an easy choice for me to move from my hometown to pursue my dreams of working in this industry. Cosmetology encompasses all of the qualities I've always hoped to find in a career: Strong relationships with my coworkers and clients, an environment to express my creativity and personal style, helping people feel amazing in their own skin, good music, and of course plenty of girl talk.

Ever since I can remember I have been around the beauty and art industry.  Coming from a family that owns a photography business, I've always been encouraged to express my creativity.  My mom enrolled me into a cosmetology school in 2006, I graduated in 2007 and acquired my cosmetology license in Michigan.  I am very excited to learn the business side of running a salon, and can't wait to get to know all of the people that come into Sutra.

My love for cosmetology started to grow when I met and got to know my family at Sutra.  Five years ago I would have never thought I would be part of the beauty industry, but I couldn’t be happier with the career path I have chosen.  I decided to make this industry my profession after watching women leave this salon saying they have never felt so beautiful.  I really enjoy making women feel good about themselves and giving them self confidence.  Not many people understand that putting just a few accent foils around someone’s face or changing the shape of someone’s haircut can completely transform the way someone looks and feels about themselves.  I trained at Aveda Institute Jacksonville and completed the Masters program with them.  I cannot wait to start training with the best, continuing to be educated by Aveda, and start building my clientele.  I have never been so passionate about something, I am eager to enhance every person’s inner and outer beauty that comes to sit in my chair.  Stay hungry, stay humble, stay passionate, and there will be no roof over your success.

I have always felt a true passion for cosmetology, even before I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the field. Shortly after receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of North Florida, I decided to obtain my cosmetology license by enrolling as a student at Paul Mitchell the School of Jacksonville, where I will graduate from in November 2012. I feel extraordinarily privileged to be a part of a team of such talented individuals and am excited to embark on my journey in a career that is so fulfilling.

I have always had a passion for making people feel beautiful.  It took me 2 years of going to Santa Fe College to realize that I wasn’t fulfilling my dreams.  So I set off to find the perfect school for me to attend to gain my Cosmetology License, and I landed at Paul Mitchell the School in Jacksonville, where I began in February 2011. During my journey there I realized my true desire to the beauty industry. I became very involved in different teams, such as, Take Home Team, Design Team, Be Nice or Else and Phase Two Honors.  In March 2012 I came upon Sutra Salon where I had the amazing opportunity to be an assistant, and will be working to becoming a future stylist.  I am so ready to expand many relationships with clients and coworkers, and to begin my career at an amazing salon.

I am a graduate of The Aveda Institute Jacksonville FL. If you ever met me, you would know that I have a very powerful passion for cosmetology. I never thought I would have the ability to make another feel and look so beautiful. It’s truly a blessing to become a part of the Sutra family, with so many talented stylists. Being new to this industry gives me the opportunity to progress at what I love to do and that’s something that is very important to me. I am so thrilled to begin my journey, and grow with such an amazing Salon that I know will carve me into an outstanding hair stylist.
